A Tarot Spread for Facing Fear

I created this spread earlier this Spring and somehow neglected to share it with you all after posting on my Mighty Networks. Well, no longer! Here it is for everyone to enjoy. My goal was to make a reading to calm and center during times of upheaval, revealing both the inflation and wisdom behind fear.

I hope this spread helps to ground you and gives you a way to use tarot when you’re a bit freaked out that doesn’t involve free-form readings where The Tower could show up and scare the bejeezus out of you! (We’ve all been there.)

A Tarot Spread for Relaxation

I’m so glad to change all that with this latest spread dedicated to relaxation, a topic that’s been on the forefront of my mind lately.

It’s been a while since I last posted a tarot spread here.

I’m so glad to change all that with this latest spread dedicated to relaxation, a topic that’s been on the forefront of my mind lately.

We talk so much about the importance of relaxation in our culture, maybe even more time than we actually spend relaxing! And, often, we use tarot as more of a planning or motivating tool than as an invitation to return into ourselves and our own experiences.

I invite you to use this spread when you want to sink deeper into your own self and shake off some of the stress and anxiety we accumulate in everyday life.

Because this is a mindfulness-based tarot spread, look at the cards from this lens. Avoid seeing the cards and pressure-filled to-do lists and instead see their affirming and guding qualities as they lead you towards deeper relaxation.

A Tarot Spread Celebrating Abundance

I like to give myself a big, in-depth tarot reading at the beginning of each month. Sure, I love shorter readings, but I find that laying out a huge mess of cards can lead to some fascinating connections and insights. Smaller spreads let us hone in on key issues while larger ones open us up to whole new horizons.

Minors Cups 10.jpg

I was feeling inspired last month and designed this spread which mimics the layout of the Ten of Cups, pictured here. What’s more delightful than an array of jolly cups on a rainbow? Similarly, this spread shows us what’s bringing us fulfillment and emotional satisfaction.

There are so many spreads out there for moments of challenge and crisis. Or ones that focus on problem solving. I wanted something breezier and more affirming, a picure of what’s working well.

use this spread when…

This spread has a decidedly optimistic outlook and you could use it to either amplify your good feelings or cheer yourself up when you’re feeling down. In either case, it’s all about showcasing what’s going well in your life and where you can grow and find ease, joy, and expression.

Long story short, if you’re in the mood for affirmation and a bigger picture, this is the spread for you!

look for

Have fun making connections between the positions. First, tie in card 1 (you) to each of the remaining cards to see how you can work with their topics. Think, “how would card 1 approach ___” or “what might card 1 tell me about this?”

As in any spread, pay attention to groups: Major Arcana cards, Minors, courts, and suits. I had a bunch of court cards in my reading which told me that so much of what I have to enjoy and cultivate in my life is in my relationships with other people.

A Tarot Spread for Focus

A lovely student and friend reminded me of this spread from my Tarot for Yourself class the other day. This is one to turn to when you want to push the clutter aside and dive into the heart of any matter. It’s very versatile and helpful for many types of situations: love, career, and the everyday.

A Tarot Spread for Clarity and Direction

A few weeks ago I found myself mired in self-doubt. I was working on a new project and just wasn't connecting with my voice. What was I trying to say? And how on earth was I going to say it? I found myself going to familiar places and thinking the usual self-limiting thoughts. Maybe I had nothing to say. Maybe nobody was listening. What fun and supportive input, right?

A few weeks ago I found myself mired in self-doubt. I was working on a new project and just wasn't connecting with my voice. What was I trying to say? And how on earth was I going to say it? I found myself going to familiar places and thinking the usual self-limiting thoughts. Maybe I had nothing to say. Maybe nobody was listening. What fun and supportive input, right?

Rather than wallow in self-pity (okay, maybe after wallowing in a teensy bit of self-pity...) I decided to make a tarot spread to find my way forward. I've found that tarot is both a health slap on the wrist in moments of doubt as well as a conduit for our true, growing selves to speak through. So if you're looking to bypass some of the hemming and hawing of your chattery ego and cut to some clarity, this spread is for you.

In fact, I was so helped by this spread that I forgot to post it. The depth of the reading combined with its advice were most definitely galvanizing. I would recommend, however, that you keep your inerpretations of each position short. Like any good advice, the messages from this spread are clear and concise. Hear what the cards have to say and follow through with some nice and energizing action.

Welcoming April with a Monthly Tarot Spread

April surprised me this year. Maybe it was the double holiday of Easter and April Fool's that has me feeling thrown into things without even a chance to complete that sacred ritual: list making. But what's better than a list? A tarot reading, of course!

I created this little spread as a way to do a quick inventory and planning session for the month ahead. Use it for any month, of course, not just springy April.

I approached this spread with the intent of creating focus and clarity. I do love a diffuse, winding tarot reading, but one of my favorite facets of this practice is its ability to cut to the chase when needed.

Here you'll find a position for a simple theme of the month (think of this as the month's mission statement) as well as a card to represent ourselves as we're entering into this next cycle. From there the spread fans out into the key happenings we can expect and how best to approach them.

I hope this spread illuminates your path through the next few weeks more brightly. And please report back and share how it worked out for you and what you discovered!

Happy April and Happy Tarot Reading!
